As new year’s greetings, Japanese people exchange new year’s cards with relatives and friends. “A Happy New Year!” is accompanied by their updates from the past year.
新年のあいさつとして、親類や友人と年賀状を交換します。「明けましておめでとう」のほかに、１年間の近況を添えます。
【豆知識】手紙（letter）は、封筒（envelope）に同封する（enclose）もので、ハガキは card です。
